All About Hinsdale, Illinois
In 1863, the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroads changed their minds.
They decided to run the new train track on vacant land one mile south of the
town of Fullersburg, located at what is now York and Ogden. This vacant land
became the future
village of Hinsdale
.
Knowing of the railroad's plans, William Robbins purchased the surrounding
land. He tamed the wild prairie by building roads and homes and planting
trees. The following year the first school was built. William Robbins is
known today as the founding father of Hinsdale.
Along with a few land developers, the small town drew the wealthy class from
Chicago, German and Swedish merchants, and others. Hinsdale was incorporated
in 1873.

Katherine Legge Memorial Park
, located on 52 acres of beautiful woodland, a perfect setting for any
occasion.
Alexander Legge and his wife, Katherine, originally developed the property
as a weekend escape, eventually planning the construction of a home. Upon
the death of Katherine in 1924 from Typhoid, Legge established the Katherine
Legge Memorial (KLM). The property was devoted to rest, recreation, and
welfare for women employed at International Harvester, where Legge presided
as president. The Lodge was built on the property in 1927. Both the land and
facilities were donated to Hinsdale in 1973.
KLM Park is wonderfully peaceful and bursting with lush greenery and
majestic trees. A fantastic place for all ages, including small children.
There are many designated areas for sports, like lacrosse, tennis,
football/soccer, and frisbee golf. Bring your walking shoes and dog along,
and hit your daily step goal on the long trail.
The park has a clubhouse, a picnic area, playgrounds, a scenic open space, a
shelter, and a sledding hill in the winter months.
The Lodge and grounds are open for rental to accommodate private and
corporate events such as weddings, receptions, meetings, parties, banquets,
picnics, etc.
