Clear Answers from Your Dental Office in Chicago and Hinsdale

Have questions about your dental care? You’re not alone. At Weller Dental, we hear the same concerns and curiosities from patients every day, and we believe that informed patients make more confident decisions about their oral health. This dental FAQs page is designed to give you straightforward, helpful answers so you feel prepared before you ever sit down in the chair.

Whether you’re a new patient or a longtime member of our practice family, we hope this resource makes your experience with our dental office in Chicago and Hinsdale a little easier.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Plan to bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card, and any relevant medical or dental records if you’re transferring from another provider. Arriving a few minutes early gives you time to complete any new patient paperwork without feeling rushed. If you have specific concerns or a list of questions, bring those too. We love when patients come prepared.

How often should I visit the dentist?

For most patients, twice a year is the standard recommendation. However, some patients with gum disease, a history of cavities, or other ongoing concerns may benefit from more frequent visits. During your first appointment, we’ll assess your needs and recommend a schedule that makes sense for your situation.

Do you accept dental insurance?

Yes. Weller Dental accepts most PPO insurance plans. If you’re unsure whether your plan is in-network, our team is happy to verify your benefits before your appointment. We also offer CareCredit financing for patients who want flexible payment options.

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes, we do. If you’re considering cosmetic or restorative treatment and want to explore your options before committing, a consultation is a great first step. You’ll have the opportunity to meet with our team, discuss your goals, and get a clear picture of what treatment might involve.

What cosmetic services do you offer?

Our cosmetic services include porcelain veneers, Lumineers, dental bonding, smile makeovers, Zoom teeth whitening, take-home whitening trays, internal bleaching, and Invisalign clear aligners. If you have a specific smile concern, chances are we have a solution for it.

How long do veneers last?

With proper care, porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 15 years or longer. Brushing, flossing, and attending regular cleanings all help protect your investment. We’ll also discuss habits to avoid, such as biting nails or chewing on hard objects, that can shorten the lifespan of your veneers.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes. Both our in-office Zoom whitening and take-home trays use professionally formulated solutions that are safe when used as directed. Some patients experience temporary sensitivity, but this typically resolves within a day or two. We’ll talk through your options during your visit to help you choose the approach that fits your timeline and comfort level.

Do you offer dental implants?

Yes. Weller Dental provides dental implant restorations as part of our prosthodontic services. We also offer implant-retained dentures and partials for patients who need more comprehensive tooth replacement. During a consultation, we can evaluate whether implants are the right fit for your needs.

What are tooth-colored fillings, and are they better than silver ones?

Tooth-colored composite fillings are made from a resin material that blends naturally with your tooth. They are mercury-free and bond directly to the tooth structure, which means less healthy tooth needs to be removed during placement. Many patients prefer them for both aesthetic and health reasons. We use tooth-colored fillings exclusively at Weller Dental.

What is occlusal disease, and how is it treated?

Occlusal disease refers to problems caused by a misaligned bite, including worn teeth, jaw pain, and cracked enamel. Treatment may involve a custom night guard, bite adjustment, or other solutions, depending on the severity. If you grind your teeth or experience jaw soreness in the morning, this is worth discussing at your next visit.

Do you treat sleep apnea?

Yes. We offer sleep apnea treatment through oral appliance therapy, which is a comfortable, non-invasive alternative to a CPAP machine for patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea. If you’ve been diagnosed or suspect you might have sleep apnea, we’re happy to discuss whether this option is right for you.
